We drove by the Brad Pitt houses and looked at the levy that broke in the lower ninth. The wetlands park was a nice place to stop and sit and also consider how the development of the canals has impacted freshwater swamps in a way that decimates the cypress and other freshwater plants, leaving New Orleans much more vulnerable to hurricanes. We also drove by a house we had worked on 5 years ago with a SPY mission trip.
The neighborhood has been deeply impacted by the storm not yet able to recover stores and schools although one charter school is almost finished. There are many many vacant lots with only a foundation slab remaining.
