The world at large (media, peer pressure) tends to condition youth to focus primarily on self and sexuality, with a lesser emphasis on society, and relegates spirituality to something we may do sometimes, but is far from the core of our being, and not interrelated with other aspects of our lives.
Church life tends toward more balance, though does not always link society with spirituality. The church view also tends to leave sexuality out …this perspective loses relevance for most adolescents.
A key tenet of SPY is that manhood & womanhood are free gifts from God; whereas adulthood must be earned. Each lesson is focused in one of four areas: Self, Society, Spirituality, or Sexuality.
